The city of Cochin is sometimes referred to as the Gateway of Southern India. Throughout the centuries, the city came under the influence of many different cultures. This handcrafted spiced chai pays tribute to this ancient city with its spicy & complex body, and a deliciously smooth finish.

Tasting notes: The chai is an exotic, rich and harmonious marriage of spices over a black-tea base - malty notes and a full-bodied spicy, creamy, sweet finish.

Steeping notes:
Steep 1 teaspoon of tea in a cup (200ml) of hot water (boil and cool to 98°C), for 4 minutes. Add hot milk. Strain and serve hot. Add sugar to taste. For an iced chai-tea treat, let your chai cool and serve over ice.

Ingredients:
Organic black tea, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, white pepper, clove, nutmeg, star anise and mace

A NOTE FROM YOUR TEA SOMMELIER FOR YOU

The city of Kochi is one of the old trading centers that developed thanks to tea, spices, coffee and jute. Even to this day, if you wander along the streets of Fort Kochi you will spot the wholesalers’ warehouses, selling whole sacks of tea, coffee and more. It’s the aromatic experience that takes you back in time that we attempted to capture in the Cochin Spiced Chai.

This spiced blend has deep, floral, spicy tones that soothes and energizes at the same time. The spices are whole and sourced in small fresh batches from farmers practicing sustainability. Our inspired version begins by lightly crushing the spices in a mortar and pestle. This opens up the spices and makes for a stronger infusion that is a treat to the senses.

An excellent choice no matter the time of year. When experimenting with this chai, we layered fragrant spices, with ginger and black tea so you could experience a nice spicy boost when you’re starting to feel a little sluggish. A great chai to go with at breakfast too. As an evening beverage it promotes coming together and conversing. The Cochin Spiced Chai pairs well with banana fritters, banana chips, onion fritters, Unni Appam, and a host of other Kerala delicacies.
