The once-thriving Irani chai shops, a vestige of 19th century India, have been an integral part of Bombay culture and history. They served as some of the earliest cosmopolitan spots for people to gather and eat during lunch breaks or after a busy day of work. We specially crafted this blend to celebrate a wonderful era gone by.

Tasting notes: Irani chai is a unique form of tea made by the addition of mawa or khoya to black tea. The result is a sweet and creamy chai - the addition of spices like cinnamon and green cardamom is optional.

Steeping notes:
Steep 1 teaspoon of tea in a cup (200ml) of hot water (boil and cool to 98°C), for 4 minutes. Add hot milk. Strain and serve hot. Add sugar to taste. For an iced chai-tea treat, let your chai cool and serve over ice. Condensed milk can also be used to make this chai.

Ingredients: Organic black tea, cinnamon, and green cardamom

A NOTE FROM YOUR TEA SOMMELIER FOR YOU

The Irani cafés of Mumbai are a unique part of the city’s history. The few that remain are a reminder of a well- assimilated cultural, particularly culinary, link between India and Iran. The Irani chai is richer and much creamier than the typical Indian chai. The extra milky flavor comes from the use of mawa or khoya. This results in a tea with a much more distinct sweetness from the sugars naturally present in the milk.

The Irani Chai is a calming, uplifting blend. It has a natural mood boost in every single sip. We handcraft it in small batches. The chai allows conversations take priority over everything else.

The sweet, milky Irani Chai is manna to many who swear by its unique taste and rejuvenating properties. It pairs well with bun maska, brun maska, kari biscuits, coconut macroons, mawa cake, akuri, kheema pav, and many more delicacies. Dip your bun muska into yor chai for that extra special experience.
